Student answer (Band 5.5)

Cinema and theatres are the the part of the culture from a long way. From when people act on the theatres in front of the live audience to the recorded movies played in cinemas and till to the digital platforms where all these shows and movies are available such as Netflix and Amazon. Both cinemas and digital places are important in their own way.

First, we discuss the importance of digital places. As you know the life has become very fast people don't have time to eat and sleep properly. In this routine they have no time to go to cinemas . These online platforms provide quick and easy way to watch all these shows , films and documentaries. This save their a lot of time, if there are no digital platform then people will forget about it and this billion dollar industry will be declined by a huge number. But, it can't lower the importance of cinemas and theatres . The experience cinemas and theatres provide will not available at online platforms. As Christopher Nolan's new movie Odyessey has been made especially to be viewed in the IMAX screens which are only 40 in the world. Although, it can be viewed in the simple screens but the experience and ambiance provided by the IMAX screens will be unmatchable. And irrespective of this a billion dollar industry of cinemas and theatres has been shutdown if people do not come to watch moves in the cinemas.

So, we can say that every platform of watching films, shows and movies has its own advantages and disadvantages. We should try to support both for example we can go to cinemas on holidays and visit online platforms when we have free time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of theatres is repetitive and lacks specific, well-explained evidence. While the mention of IMAX screens is a good attempt at providing an example, the explanation of why this makes cinemas 'economically' important is underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning and clearer links between the digital age and the specific economic or cultural impacts on traditional venues.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First' and 'Although', but they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly, such as the transition 'And irrespective of this' which does not logically connect to the previous sentence. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrases like 'digital places' and 'watch all these shows'. There are also some instances of awkward word choice, such as 'will be declined by a huge number' and 'has been shutdown', which indicate a lack of control over collocations and verb tenses. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'cinematic experience', 'digital streaming services', or 'cultural heritage', and ensure you use them in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the the part of the culture'), subject-verb agreement ('a billion dollar industry... has been shutdown'), and awkward sentence construction ('From when people act on the theatres...'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
