Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that theatres and cinemas are not essential in this digital world. It is believed that all the entertainment content is now available 24/7 on the internet. While some people still believe that such establishments play an essential role in our society. I believe that theatres and cinemas have a greater importance in our society because they provide employment and outing opportunities to people.
Firstly, some people believe that there is no need of theatres and cinema halls in this online world. Nowadays, everything is available on the internet with flexible features. We can access them anytime when we are free instead of a fixed schedule. For example, when we plan to watch a new movie on the internet. We can access the movie at any time that is convenient for us. We can watch the movie on the Netflix by purchasing a Netflix subscription. Netflix monthly plan is a budget friendly. We can enjoy a movie in the room and do not need to go to cinema halls and book the costly tickets. We can pause the movie or watch it at a different speed. So, the Internet made this more accessible and affordable for everyone.
On the other side, many people believe that such venues are of greater importance. These entertainment venues are not only a source of entertinment, they also provide employment to numerous people including actors, sweepers , directors and other workers. They also promote our society local culture globally. They are also a source of entertainment for the families. For example, when familes plan to watch a movie. In this way, they are able to spend some quality time with each other and get a break from daily routine work. Hence, these venues support our society local culture and economy.
In the conclusion, accessibility to all entertainment content is easier and affordable in this online world. However, I strongly believe that such entertainment venues are still essential for our society. They contribute to make our society economically and culturally stronger and significant on the foreign level.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming services versus the economic and social benefits of physical venues. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph where the points about employment and culture could be more deeply explored with specific examples. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a functional level rather than a fully extended one.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'On the other side', and 'In the conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there are instances of sentence fragments, such as 'While some people still believe that such establishments play an essential role in our society.' This sentence is a dependent clause and lacks a main clause, which disrupts the flow of ideas. Improving the connection between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt at topic-specific vocabulary like 'entertainment content', 'subscription', and 'economically and culturally stronger'. However, there are minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'entertinment' and 'society local culture' (which should be 'society's local culture'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Netflix', 'the Internet'), punctuation (incorrect sentence fragments), and possessives ('society local culture'). Some sentences are short and repetitive in structure. To improve, the writer should focus on eliminating sentence fragments and ensuring correct subject-verb agreement and article usage. The control of grammar is inconsistent, which limits the score in this criterion.
