Student answer (Band 6.0)

some people argue that in the digital era, theatres and cinemas houses does not give the same feeling as it used to be before, because of the online OTT websites and applications, people can now watch films online from their home for free. Others believe that theatres play an important role uplifting the culture of watching cinemas and they are equally important. It is acceptable that many of the OTT platforms now show cinemas and other web series online which are now a new form of entertainment.

On the one hand, advancement of technology in this generation has introduced a lot of entertainment platforms, where they telecast many cinemas and new web series, including television shows in a single platform, this eases the needs of the people. Furthermore, these platform charges money in order to watch such entertainment, unlike cinema theatres where you need to book tickets and pay price for each person. Additionally, in some modern houses they are equipped with home theatres, which exactly gives the feeling of watching a movie in a theatre.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres are important as they contribute towards the economic sector, they it is also a part of our culture, the birth of cinemas has begun with introduction of theatres, it used to hold the craze of the people as many people would wait in the queue to buy the tickets for the movie. The excitement of watching a movie in the crowded theatre does not match the same with daily television. Now a days there are new technologies which are introduced in the theatres for example, the features include Dolby Atmos, 4k movie, 3D movies, these features enhance the experience of watching a movie.

In conclusion, cinemas and theatres are equally important as they are originated culturally and contribute towards economic growth, even though OTT platforms enable people to watch various movies and web series in a single platform, but it does not contribute as such as compared to theatres, movies run on theatres earn money from tickets which are sold in the box office.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, although the opinion is somewhat implicit rather than clearly stated in the introduction. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic contribution of theatres and the convenience of OTT platforms. However, some points are under-developed; for instance, the economic argument is mentioned but not fully explained with specific examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion attempts to summarize the views but lacks a strong, definitive statement of the writer's position. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the personal opinion is explicitly stated and consistently maintained throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'they it is also a part of our culture'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The use of punctuation is inconsistent, which sometimes disrupts the logical progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects logically to the previous one will enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'OTT platforms', 'Dolby Atmos', and 'economic growth'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'uplifting the culture of watching cinemas' and 'movies run on theatres'. The range is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas houses does not give') and awkward phrasing ('the birth of cinemas has begun with introduction of theatres'). Punctuation is also a recurring issue, with several run-on sentences and comma splices, such as in the first paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Increasing the accuracy of complex structures and focusing on basic sentence boundaries will significantly improve the quality of the writing.
