Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this digital age, the number of residents believes that cinemas and theatres are no longer popular. Since they can watch the movies and series comfortably at home, others feel that these are still significant in terms of economic and culture growth. From my perspective, I believe that balance is important. While theatres and cinemas are still valuable for the entertainment and economic growth.
The primary reason why many people prefer not to visit the cinemas or theatres is the convenience of online entertainment. In today's technological advanced world, many platforms allow people to watch their favourite films and series online. For example, going to the cinema can involve additional expenses such as ticket, food, and transportation cost. Hence, it saves our time and energy and we can take benefit from the digital world.
On the other hand, people argues that it is a great way to spend time with family and friends. It is also essential for the economic sector. For instance, when we go to the cinemas and theatres with our loved ones we purchase the ticket, food items like Popcorn and cold drinks individually which contribute directly to the economy. Accordingly, I strongly support this idea for the betterment of the society and the entertainment industry.
In conclusion, although many individuals prefer watching films online because it is more convenient and affordable. However, cinemas and theatres still play an important role in entertainment and economic development of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the depth of the argument. While the introduction and body paragraphs touch upon the key points, the explanation of the economic and cultural importance of theatres is quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples and provide more detailed reasoning for your position. The conclusion is also a bit abrupt and repeats the prompt's ideas without adding significant synthesis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'For instance' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly disjointed. The sentence structure within paragraphs is generally clear, but the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a more robust topic sentence to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological advanced world' and 'economic development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the number of residents believes' (which is grammatically awkward) and 'take benefit from' (should be 'benefit from'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to the arts and economics, and be careful with the naturalness of your phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'people argues' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'technological advanced' (should be 'technologically advanced'). Additionally, the sentence 'While theatres and cinemas are still valuable for the entertainment and economic growth' is a sentence fragment as it lacks a main clause. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity and professional tone of the writing.
