Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent decades, where technology is updating at fast pace within everyone's reach, a new ongoing debate suggest that theaters and cinemas are not needed as individuals can enjoy every show from internet from anywhere. On the other side, people argue that cinemas are as important as before due to its demand and net worth it produces. This essay will discuss both views before concluding the theatres are important.

Theatres play a major roll in cinema industry such as Hollywood, Bollywood, etc. Movie theatres are made to experience the immense work of movie and to feel the sound, the vibrations, and the authentic experience of the movie. For instance, there are almost 31 original IMAX theatres in all around the globe, which are famous due to its size and the original thrill it gives. By adding that, some of the most famous directors, Cristopher Nolan and James Cameron makes movies specifically for the original IMAX cinema, which gives the best cinematic experience.

On the other hand, online platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, unlocks almost all the movies and series ever made, which can be watched anywhere and anytime. These types of online platforms gives large catalog of movies with lower price compare to cinemas. For example, the amount of people visiting theatres has been declined in past decade as many people prefer to watch movies at home with low price rather than going to cinema.

To sum up, although online platforms give vast number of choice to user, I firmly believe that having theaters are logical approach, mainly due to the jobs it provide and how real and authentic experience it gives to the movie lovers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of IMAX technology and the economic benefits of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument is mentioned in the introduction and conclusion but lacks specific detail or examples in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'economic' aspect with more depth, perhaps discussing local employment or the broader impact on the film industry, rather than focusing primarily on the viewing experience.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other side', 'For instance', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'By adding that' to start a sentence. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'its' when referring to plural nouns like 'theatres'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'authentic experience', 'immense work', and 'catalog'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'updating at fast pace' (should be 'at a fast pace') and 'major roll' (should be 'major role'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'having theaters are logical approach'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'directors... makes movies' (should be 'make') and 'theatres... is' (should be 'are'). There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in all around the globe' and 'with lower price'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
