Student answer (Band 6.0)
Due to the rise of the digital technology, access to movies have been made much easier than going to those big screens or plays and watching it along with other public. Some individuals believe that cinemas hold both cultural and economic values to the society. This essay would discuss both the beliefs with relevant example, although I strongly prefer cinemas and theatres over all else.
Living in today's world and age, technology is given higher preference in terms of seeking visual entertainment. Be it soap dramas, movies, series, skits etc, all of these are enjoyed in the comfort zones along with loved ones, which to an extent seems stagnated. Going out with families or friends and watching a movie in cinema brings a kind of togetherness and joy which lacks on home tv. Furthermore, the onscreen characters get recognition much better and thrive to perform well. For instance, rather than watching a movie on a pirated site with adverts disturbing you amidst the fil or renting a film, one can simply watch in cinema without interruption and whilst its trending. Consequently, killing two birds with one stone which is receiving thrill and joy as well as benefiting the production house.
It can also be noticed that traditional form of entertainment in theatres is considered to be an epitome of drama. Instead of watching them on screen with eyes being glued, one should go sit and watch it being performed live. People will get to experience live emotions and tend to have empathy towards the characters. Getting support from public encourages all those involved in this art to create better projects.
In conclusion, although all forms of media are still accessible easily on technology, I strongly believe theatres and cinemas hold a greater value in our society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of cinemas are touched upon, the economic aspect mentioned in the prompt is only briefly alluded to with 'benefiting the production house' and lacks depth. The argument regarding theatres as an 'epitome of drama' is relevant but could be better supported with more specific examples or a more sophisticated analysis of why they remain culturally significant in a digital age. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more detailed elaboration to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as the sudden shift to the theatre argument. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, like 'which to an extent seems stagnated', are slightly ambiguous in their connection to the previous clause. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'epitome' and 'thrive'. However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice, such as 'comfort zones' instead of 'comfort of one's home', and 'amidst the fil' (likely a typo for 'film'). The phrase 'killing two birds with one stone' is an idiom that feels slightly out of place in a formal academic essay. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, more precise and academic vocabulary would elevate the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('access to movies have been made') and awkward phrasing ('watching it along with other public'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but control over these structures is inconsistent, leading to occasional slips in accuracy.
