Student answer (Band 5.5)

some individuals believe that theaters and cinemas are not useful now in this digital era if they can consume all type of enjoyment online while others are in opinion of that both of the things mentioned before are equally essential for culture and as well as economical aspect. Both views have equally important values. I usually go for second argument.

People debating that theaters and cinemas are not in need of public anymore are partially right in their own perspective because this era is very busy in general. People don't have time for each other. Families have become so busy that they can't spent quality time with each other because every member is doing something either its a job or a small business. For example, people who are in corporate sector usually don't have spare time to go in any theater or cinema because they spend most of the day at their workplaces. If they get home in the evening, they are tired and don't bother to put an effort for going out. So they prefer to watch any kind of amusement at the comfort of their homes like a movie , a documentary or anything of their interest.

However there are some persons believe that cinemas and theaters are vital factors in the development of culture and economy as well. They are right in the sense that people can interact with each other if they meet in such an event. These types of events allow different individuals to have a conversation about any topic. They can chat with an old friend. If any foreigner comes to cinemas and theaters, he can learn about one's culture. In these events, there are different kinds of food stalls which can hype up small businesses which in return is beneficial for economy. People can show their art at these functions.

In conclusion, both opinions have their own positive and negative sides. It basically depends on one's interests. Some like to interact and socialize with some prefer to stay at home and want to have fun within it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic impact of cinemas is limited to 'food stalls' and 'small businesses', which lacks depth. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, the analysis remains quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper reasoning regarding the cultural and economic significance of these venues, rather than relying on broad statements about busy lifestyles or simple social interactions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'For example' and 'However' are used correctly, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are often abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'both of the things mentioned before', which is slightly awkward. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the flow and logical progression of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'useful', 'enjoyment', and 'things'. While you attempt some topic-specific vocabulary such as 'corporate sector' and 'documentary', there is a lack of collocations and less common lexical items. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'don't bother to put an effort' or 'hype up small businesses'. Expanding your range to include more academic and precise terminology would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'People debating that theaters and cinemas are not in need of public anymore' (should be 'do not need the public'), 'can't spent' (should be 'can't spend'), and 'either its a job' (should be 'whether it is a job'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense and articles in complex sentences.
