Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no country in the world which is untouched by the phenomenon of entertainment. Recent studies indicate that this trend is only likely to accentuate in the near future considering the ground realities of the modern world. This essay shall analyse whether theatres and cinemas are not important or entertainments can be watched through online.

In contemporary world, the access to entertainment had widened due to the advancement in the technology. However, theatres and cinemas plays a substantial role. In the recent times the number of theatres had increased. This demonstrate how people are opting to watch movies in theatres. Digital devices like smartphone, tablet and laptops could never compete with the big screen. The visual effects and impact will always remain the preference for the audience. The collections and the ticket fare are the backbone of the film industries. The advertisements played during intervals play a pivotal role. Moreover, there are many cafes, shops which are also run inside theatres. Hence the livelihood of man y people are dependent on threatres. While actors, actress, directors and all behind a movie receives the feedback from the audience. This is how the traditional way of watching cinemas. Government also receives a humongous amount as tax.

There are many online platforms which telecast movies, web-series, shows which could be accessed at any time. Convenience is the major advantage of watching entertainments online. The subscription to it could gain access to many shows beyond languages. By using this platform transport is not required. We could access it at anytime we prefer. But there won't be a traditional way of celebrating movie success. For instance, many native people who are abroad could also watch movie online since they couldn't watch if it is only released in the local theatres.

Considering both sides of arguments it is ever-so-sensible to register my disagreement with the statement that theatres will be eliminated in near future. Suffice to say that theatres and cinemas will withstand the test of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the economic importance of theatres is mentioned, the cultural aspect is less explored. The essay structure is logical, but some points, such as the mention of 'advertisements' and 'cafes', are slightly tangential to the core argument of economic and cultural significance. To reach a higher band, you should focus on expanding the cultural impact of cinemas—such as the shared social experience or the preservation of art—rather than listing minor amenities like shops. The conclusion is clear, but the introduction could be more precise in outlining the essay's scope.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the transition 'In the recent times' and 'Moreover' are used, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This is how the traditional way of watching cinemas', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects logically to the previous one would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accentuate', 'substantial', and 'pivotal'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'the collections and the ticket fare' (referring to box office revenue) and 'all behind a movie receives the feedback' (referring to the production team). Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'man y' (typo) and 'actors, actress' (should be plural). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to the film industry and ensure consistent accuracy in word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'theatres and cinemas plays' (should be 'play') and 'the number of theatres had increased' (should be 'has increased'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in the digital age' vs 'in contemporary world'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
