Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, digital era change the way people enjoy entertainment. Many individuals believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important , while others argue that they still have economic and culture value. This is essay will discuss both views along with my opinion in upcoming paragraph.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why some people think theatres and cinemas are no longer important. The main reason is that online entertainment is much more easy and convenient. In other words , people watch movies, series and videos at home at any time without going to cinema. In addition, online platforms provide large variety of options to watch and people can pause, replay and stop whenever they want. For example, a survey was conducted by a producers showed that their movie got less rating because most people watch it online. Hence, online entertainment save time and provide large variety of platforms.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are important both economically and culturally. Firstly, the industry creates employment for many people such as actors, directors, cleaner and cinema staff. Cinema also support other businesses such as restaurant, cafes and shops. Secondly, watching a movie in a cinema is a social and culture experience. In others words, people can spend time with their families and friends and enjoy film on big screen together. For instance, s study showed that families often visit cinemas during holidays. Hence, these places continue to have economic and social importance.

In conclusion, online entertainment is convenient but I believe theatres and cinemas are still necessary because they provide employment and support local business. Thus online entertainment cannot replace theatres and cinemas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact of the film industry and the convenience of digital platforms. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the example regarding a survey about movie ratings is vague and lacks specific detail. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more sophisticated reasoning or more concrete, illustrative examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect of your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Firstly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are slightly repetitive or simplistic, such as 'In others words' used twice. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more fluid. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used more naturally would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, covering topics like 'economic and cultural value', 'employment', and 'convenient'. There are some instances of inaccurate word choice or collocation, such as 'digital era change' (should be 'has changed') and 'large variety of options' (should be 'a large variety'). You also use 'culture value' instead of the adjective 'cultural'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on collocations and word forms will help you improve your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('digital era change', 'Cinema also support') and article usage ('a producers', 'a study'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the space before the comma in 'important ,'. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency.
