Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has always been a debate between two groups of perspectives that cinemas are no longer that much important in modern digital era and other who state that they are still actually that much important.I will come up discussing both of point of views along the argument that why cinemas and theatre still hold their importance.

Although people can watch all the movies and shows online as per their ease without buying tickets and going to cinemas but still they will have to wait for their favourite shows and movies be officially uploaded on the internet sources. On the other hand people also have to pay for the platforms they watch movies on that normally equals a price of a movie ticket in cinema. Some movie enthusiast can't actually wait that much to watch their favourite movies.

Even in the modern era of digital age cinemas still hold their existence as they strengthen the bonds between people as they come along to watch movies in theatre. Cinemas provide a peaceful environment for people to enjoy their favourite shows. Cinemas intends to maintain the cultural dignity that sticks people together unlike watching movies individually on mobile gadgets or laptops. Cinemas and theatre also serve as a catalyst to boost economy by paying taxes to regulatory bodies.

In my opinion cinemas are beneficial and still not outdated as they are assumed to be.Additionally people love to watch movies in groups or with their partners, as they can have a quality time with their partners or friends enjoying snacks and the several outstanding services offered by them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding economic benefits is mentioned but not sufficiently supported with specific examples or deeper analysis. The points about 'cultural dignity' and 'strengthening bonds' are relevant but could be expanded to better reflect the complexity of the topic. While the task is addressed, the depth of the discussion remains at a basic level, preventing a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Although', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved to make the connections more natural and less formulaic. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There is a reliance on simple phrasing, such as 'that much important' and 'not outdated as they are assumed to be'. Some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'digital era' (missing an article) and 'internet sources'. While the meaning is always clear, the student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items or idiomatic language effectively to convey nuanced ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Cinemas intends to maintain') and missing articles ('in modern digital era'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
