Student answer (Band 5.5)
In today's rapidly changing world, cinemas and theaters has become a matter of considerable debate. While some believe that cinemas and theaters are no longer important as everyone can watch anything online. Others argue that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.
However, I strongly agree with this view, as cinemas and theaters are really important. As watching movie in theatre or cinema is hangout which you can do with your family or friends. And cinemas and theaters both are also source of income make this approach more beneficial.
Cinemas and theaters are still important both economically and culturally. This is because cinemas was build in olden times and it is a good activity with your friends and family. As watching movie with your friends or family will make you feel fresh which is a really good thing you will feel easy from your hectic routine. And first people used to buy tickets physically in long ques but now you can select timings and movie online. So you don't need to purchase tickets first. Which also a good relief for customers. And theaters are also really important as many successful actor started their career from theater. And watching play in theater is also a really nice activity and many people are really great fans of theater even now.
In conclusion, cinemas and theaters both are really important even now as both activities are favorite of many. And it is also a source of money of many. And there should be more development in cinemas and theaters.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding the 'economic' importance is mentioned but not explained in depth, relying on vague statements like 'source of income'. The cultural aspect is also under-developed, focusing more on personal enjoyment than broader societal impact. To reach a higher band, you should provide specific examples, such as the role of cinemas in local tourism or the preservation of arts through theater, rather than repeating that these activities make one 'feel fresh'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'And' or 'So' frequently, which is inappropriate for academic writing. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt. While there is an overall structure, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel simplistic and repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'really important', 'good activity', and 'nice'. There is little attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary. Phrases like 'long ques' (spelling error: queues) and 'feel easy from your hectic routine' are unnatural. To improve, you should aim for more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to the entertainment industry and economic impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas and theaters has', 'cinemas was build') and punctuation errors. Sentence structures are mostly simple or compound, with very few attempts at complex sentences. The errors are noticeable and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication. Greater attention to verb tenses and pluralisation is required to improve the accuracy of your writing.
