Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different views about the functionality of theatres and cinemas in this century. While some believe that these recreational movie centers has lost their values due to presence of internet others argue that theatres and cinemas are still essential in term of economical and cultural value. Although both perceptive have some merits, I completely agree with the people that says these movie viewing centers are still essential to human's ways of entertainment. This essay will discuss both views and gives my opinion.

On the one hand, the reason some people felt that theatres and cinemas are no longer significant is because of their location and exorbitant fee. Firstly, the resident area of most people to these leisure facilities are far and most people usually feel reluctant to undergo the stress, so they would have to watch those films through movie app. Secondly, nowadays the entrance fee for cinemas and theatres are too costly, so some individual will prefer to stream online with their data. For instance, in Nigeria the ticket forms for cinemas have tripled than the amount that was paid last year. Therefore, people are discourage to spend that huge amount on two hours movies.

On the other, I firmly agree with people that believe that movie centers and theatres still hold an important aspect in traditional and economical value. This because these centers are essential buildings that bring people from different ethnical groups together. A cinema and theatre can host larger numbers of people who will eventually laugh together and some will even make friends. Furthermore, parents always finds this viewing centers at a mean of bonding with their families. Although the economical benefit in this digital age only benefit the producers and his crew, some individual still find it affordable except a larger households.

In conclusion, Although watching movies using the internet has recently replace the function of cinemas and theatres, the economical and culturally value are still much greater to the communities, families and movie producers

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide a specific example regarding ticket prices in Nigeria, the arguments regarding cultural value are slightly underdeveloped and could benefit from more specific elaboration on how these spaces foster community beyond just 'laughing together'. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with a clear link back to the prompt's core question about the 'importance' of these venues in the digital age.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'This because these centers...' which lacks a proper subject. Additionally, the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words rather than relying on simple enumerators like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'exorbitant', 'recreational', and 'economical value'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'resident area' instead of 'proximity to' or 'location', and 'ticket forms' instead of 'ticket prices'. You also use 'economical' when you likely mean 'economic' (relating to the economy rather than saving money). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and a better grasp of word forms to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('centers has lost', 'people that says', 'parents always finds'), missing articles, and incorrect pluralization ('economical and culturally value'). While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that adjectives and nouns are used in their correct forms.
