Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's rapidly changing world many aspects of human life are evolving significantly. Some people believe that in the modern age, cinema and theatres are not important people can watch online. Other say theatres and cinemas are still beneficial both culturally and economically. This essay will shed light on the two views about cinemas and I discussed both views before giving my own opinion.

To begin with, in now digital age theatres and cinemas are no longer important because people would like to watch online. Now days every one has smartphone so they can easily watch any movies through different apps. For instance, people simply get a subscription of Netflix and watch any movies and in this way they can save their time and money. Furthermore, they don't need to travel a long for go to cinemas and they watch easily at home.

On the other hand , some people prefer to go to cinemas because its provide big 3D screen. Moreover, theatres many other facilities such canteen where people can bought popcorns, lays and cold drinks. While some people thinks that in cinemas movie like play in live and they enjoy this thing. For my perspective, I prefer watching movie online because it's save our time and money so it will enjoy online entertainment. In addition, I'm an a introverted person so i feel uncomfortable at public place so I enjoy at home online.

To conclude it, watching movie is online is save time and money and cinemas have a lot of entry fee. So that's why i like watch all the entertainment online as compare to travel a lot for watching movie.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention economic and cultural importance, the arguments remain superficial. For example, you mention 'big 3D screen' and 'canteen' as the primary benefits of cinemas, which lacks depth. To improve, you should expand on the cultural significance of shared experiences or the economic impact on local communities. The conclusion is somewhat repetitive, restating the points made in the body paragraphs rather than synthesising them. The response meets the requirements but requires more substantial supporting evidence to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is hindered by grammatical errors. For example, the transition in the final paragraph is abrupt. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt's requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive language such as 'watch', 'movies', and 'time and money'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'people can bought popcorns' (should be 'buy popcorn') and 'movie like play in live'. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to entertainment and technology, and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it's save our time'), article usage ('in now digital age'), and tense consistency. For instance, 'people can bought' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work to correct basic errors in verb forms and sentence construction.
