Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, the internet has changed the way people enjoy entertainment. Many people believe that theaters and cinemas are becoming unnecessary because people can watch movies online, while others argue that these places are still important economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views along with my opinion in the upcoming paragraph.
To begin with, there are several reasons why people think theaters and cinemas are no longer important. The main reason is that online entertainment is more convenient because people can watch movies, series and videos at home at any time without going to cinemas. In addition, online platforms provides large variety of entertainment at reasonable price. For example, a survey conducted by the film industry showed that students can watch a movie on their phones or laptops instead of watching in cinema. Hence, online entertainment saves time and provides comfort.
On the other hand, theaters and cinemas play significant role in society. Firstly, entertainment industry creates employment for many people, including actors, directors and producers. Cinemas also support other side businesses such as restaurants, cafes and shops. Secondly, watching movie in cinema is a social and cultural experience as people can spend time with their families and friends. For instance, a study showed that families often visit cinemas together during holidays. Hence, cinemas can strengthen social connections and support entertainment industry.
In conclusion, in digital age, theaters and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all entertainment online at home. However online entertainment is convenient but in my opinion, theaters and cinemas are still important because they provide employment and support to local businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming versus the economic and social benefits of physical venues. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the example regarding students watching movies on phones is a bit generic and could be more effectively linked to the broader cultural impact. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be extended with more specific analysis or nuanced examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'On the other hand', and 'Hence' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the final conclusion and the preceding arguments could be smoother to ensure a more sophisticated progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some use of topic-specific vocabulary like 'entertainment industry', 'social connections', and 'digital age'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or less common lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of control. Some collocations are slightly awkward, such as 'provides large variety' (missing an article) and 'support entertainment industry' (missing an article). Expanding the range of synonyms and improving article usage would enhance the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'at reasonable price', 'watching movie in cinema', 'in digital age'). Subject-verb agreement is also an issue in the sentence 'online platforms provides'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on article usage and proofreading for basic agreement errors, while also attempting to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with greater precision.
