Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rapid increase in technology and easier access to gadgets has sparked a debate whether theatres and cinemas remain significant or not in the digital age. Some people believe that their importance have declined because many people watch the shows and movies online while some believe that they have economic and cultural significance. In this essay, i will present both the views before expressing my preference for cinemas and theatres.
The critics believe that there has been a decrease in the revenue generated by cinemas and theatres because people prefer watching different forms of entertainment at the comfort of their home. It helps to save them money not only on movie tickets but also for the expenses incurred over interval snacks. Moreover, cinemas and theatres have slots for different movies and shows , they are not available all the time whereas OTT platforms have access to all the entertainment one wants via single click. Hence, it acts as another reason that contributes to decrease in the usage of cinemas and theatres.
The proponents of theatres and cinemas argue that they are still prevelant in the modern age. They provide an immersive experience with large screens, comfortable seating, clear and loud audio, which makes watching movies more enjoyable. Since, this set up is hard to create at home, people love going to cinemas and theatres. Moreover, it is one of the most preferred going out spot for families and friends on occasions like birthdays and anniverasaries. Hence, it generates a considerable amount of revenue during vacations or festivals.
In conclusion, although we now have access to thousands of movie on our laptops and phones, we cannot recreate the cinematic vibes and experience. I believe that cinemas and theatres remain significant in today's world because it is still choosen as the most preferred hangout place with families and friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of OTT platforms versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument is mentioned but not deeply explored with specific examples or data. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion could be more robust to fully synthesize the arguments presented. Overall, it meets the requirements for a Band 6.5, leaning towards 7.0, as the main points are clear and supported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Hence', and 'Although' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'they' in the second paragraph is slightly ambiguous). The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the flow could be improved with more varied cohesive links to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some good topic-specific terms like 'OTT platforms', 'immersive experience', and 'revenue generated'. There are some minor spelling errors (e.g., 'prevelant', 'choosen', 'anniverasaries') and occasional word choice issues (e.g., 'going out spot'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band. The student uses common vocabulary effectively but needs to incorporate more precise academic collocations to improve the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('importance have declined' instead of 'has declined') and punctuation issues (e.g., missing spaces before commas, 'i' not capitalized). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The student demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but the control over these structures is inconsistent. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors would significantly improve the accuracy.
