A common argument is that theatres and cinema are becoming irrelevant, as people no longer find it neccessary to visit them to watch entertainment anymore because of online viewing. While others disagree that both theatres and cinema are still relevant culturally and economically.
On one hand, there are several reason why people feel that theatres and cinema are becominhg insignificant. Firstly, online streaming platform such as netflix, prime, youtube and televisions has brought entertainment to the comfort of someone house. People no longer feel the need to stress and travel to a differnt location to watch entertaiment and these platforms offfer varieties. Secondly, watching entertainment is cost effect, for instance, when you make payment for netflix, the platform allows the viewing of many movies or shows in a month. However paying the same money at a cinema is a ticket for a single viewing of a movie.
On the other hand, cinema and theatres continue to to have remarkable cultural and economical impact on the society. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear position in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the economic argument regarding employment is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with specific examples. The introduction is slightly weak as the second sentence is a fragment ('While others disagree...'). To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides more depth and that your position is clearly stated in the introduction rather than just the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor mechanical errors, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction and some awkward phrasing. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the cultural and economic points in the second body paragraph could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'blockbuster', 'streaming platform', and 'economical impact'. However, there are several spelling errors ('neccessary', 'becominhg', 'differnt', 'cinmema') and some word choice issues, such as 'someone house' instead of 'someone's house' and 'economical' instead of 'economic' when referring to the impact on society. These errors do not impede communication but prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical slips, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('televisions has brought') and missing articles ('a ticket for a single viewing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and run-on sentences. While the student attempts complex structures, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and spelling limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
