Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, the discussion about is the theatres and cinema are still important for people or not has become a widely discussed issue. While some people believe that everything that they want to watch is available on internet, others argue that theatres and cinemas are not just for entertainment, It is the part of any country's culture and heritage. This essay will discuss both perspectives. In my perspective, I will say theatres and cinemas are not as much important as in old times.

To begin with, one major reason is that people now a days do not have enough time to look theirselves so, how they can manage time to watch movies and spend money to buy tickets. This is because way of living has changed a lot. In urban areas life is so busy and fast and people barely have social contacts and leisure time. For example, A man working in hospital's 9 t0 5 job. After spending whole time in hectic environment he just wants to relax at home and there he can watch movies .Therefore, people who are busy in urban lives are prefer to stay at home when they have leisure time rather than going to cinemas to waste time and money.

Another important point is that some people are fond of going outside and they feel boring to stay at home doing nothing. In addition, These kind of people prefer to spend their weekends outside such as watching movies in cinemas, party at clubs and family gatherings in a park. For instance, many people who are fond of watching movies in cinemas they do not like it to watch on tiny screens of home TV.

In conclusion, we can say that some people prefer to stay at their home in spare times and get relax theirselves and some see it fascinating to go outside for watching movies . Overall, I believe that in todays time cinemas are of no use and they are waste of time and money. The same movies we can watch online at home and can save time and money

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the lack of time is a valid point, but the explanation lacks depth and relies on a very specific, narrow example of a hospital worker. The conclusion is also quite repetitive, merely restating the points without adding a final synthesis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on the 'cultural and economic' importance mentioned in the prompt, which was largely ignored in your body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In my perspective, I will say' and 'These kind of people' are used awkwardly. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive sentence structures. While the essay is coherent overall, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of referencing (e.g., 'These kind of people') limits the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'waste of time and money' and 'do not have enough time'. There are also several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'feel boring' (should be 'feel bored') and 'get relax theirselves' (should be 'relax'). While the meaning is clear, the lack of variety and the presence of these errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people... is prefer'), incorrect pronoun usage ('look theirselves'), and awkward phrasing ('discussion about is the theatres'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters after a period or having misplaced commas. While these errors rarely impede communication, their frequency is high, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 or 6.0 level.
