Student answer (Band 7.0)
Numerous individuals think that in the digital era, people can consume all entertainment on their digital devices and physical establishments turn unimportant. Others believe that theaters and cinemas are still economically and culturally significant. Despite the fact that it is extremely convenient to watch media at home, I think that the experience of going to the cinema is unprecedented and funds future productions.
On the one hand, it is easy to view entertainment on our televisions, tablets or phones. After a long day at work, most of the people do not want to go outside anymore because they mainly need to relax after their day. For them, it is ideal to watch plays or movies on their couch, while not having to bother to dress exquisitely, especially for theaters. In recent years, most of the people in Germany report that they entertain themselves mainly to manage their stress from work.
On the other hand, the experience of watching entertainment media at home cannot be compared to the experience on the big screen and if not for cinemas, the movie industry might miss its budget. Experiencing a movie on the big screen invokes different emotions. Through monumental sound and sharp color, a visit is entirely different to its digital equivalent. Furthermore, if nobody attends these showings anymore, the entertainment industry would be hit financially, which could lead to budget cuts for the productions and thus a decline in quality. For instance, most of the budget for major movies in its first week is generated at the box office. The same applies to theatrical productions too.
In conclusion, while some think that digital enterainment is superior to the physical medium, I strongly believe that not only is the experience uncomparable at an event, but future movies or plays are funded by the box office significantly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, particularly the economic argument regarding box office revenue. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the 'cultural' significance mentioned in the prompt, as the current focus leans heavily toward the economic aspect. Overall, the task is well-covered with a clear structure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more varied to improve the flow. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and restates the author's position, contributing to a coherent whole.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses some effective collocations like 'monumental sound', 'physical establishments', and 'unprecedented'. There are minor issues with word choice, such as 'uncomparable' (incomparable) and 'enterainment' (spelling error). While the range is adequate to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the more sophisticated, precise, or idiomatic vocabulary required for a higher band score. The student demonstrates a good grasp of topic-specific terminology related to the entertainment industry.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and errors are infrequent enough that they do not impede communication. Examples of minor errors include 'most of the people' (should be 'most people') and the aforementioned spelling issues. The use of complex sentences, such as 'if not for cinemas, the movie industry might miss its budget', shows a good attempt at varied structures. With more consistent error-free complex sentences, the score would improve.
