Student answer (Band 5.5)

Utterly, modern world is full of technology. Few individuals say that the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer crucial as people can see all the entertainment they want online while opponents argue that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views along with my logical opinion.

Apparently, there are many reasons to support former view but prime one could be, variety of options. To fortify, online platforms such as netflix, amazon prime and many other applications provide various options of entertainment to individual due to which people can watch any sort of entertainment according to their will. Secondly, more comfortable and affordable. To justify, individuals can watch movies and series in their comfort zone without travelling and also with the option of pause and play and even subscriptions of such applications are more affordable as compared to buying tickets of cinemas.

However, there are several factors to support latter view but cardinal one could be more enjoyable. To make it more clear, theatres provides facilities of big screen to viewers due to which individuals gets realistic view of a movies. As a result, watching in theatres movies give more pleasure and fun. For instance, a survey conducted by various universities revealed that ticket sales of theatres and cinemas are surging even after the availability of online platforms.

I opine that, former view holds enough water because it provide more options and comfort.

In crux, both the views stand true in their own virtue with equal validations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention 'variety of options' and 'comfort' for the first view, and 'enjoyment' for the second, these points are not fully extended or supported with sufficient depth. The conclusion is very brief and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a concrete example that directly relates to the economic or cultural importance mentioned in the prompt, rather than just general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To fortify', 'To justify', 'To make it more clear'). The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases that connect ideas more naturally, rather than relying on formulaic transitions at the start of every sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'Utterly, modern world is full of technology' and 'stands true in their own virtue'. The use of vocabulary is often repetitive, and there is a lack of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'ubiquitous', 'cinematic experience', or 'socio-economic impact', and focus on natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include missing articles ('theatres provides facilities', 'view of a movies'), incorrect word order, and issues with subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and affect the overall flow of the writing. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly article usage and pluralization, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
