Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many individuals believe that in the modern era, theatures and cinemas are no longer crucial as people get everything online according to their desires, whereas others believe that theatres and cinemas still hold importance both economically and culturally. In todays world, people get eveything online and do not need to visit places to get entertainment. However, some people opposes this idea as they believe that these places hold cultural importance. I agree with the latter point beacuse i believe that these places play a vital role in the economics of the county.

In this age of technology, everyone can find anything online and everything is just a click away. People do not need to buy a ticket and go to cinemas and theatures to watch a show. It is much cheaper and convenient to watch all the entertainment online. For instance, when The Odyssey was released, its ticket was 2500rs per person but i watched it online for free.

On the other hand, the theatures and cinemas are build just for the entertainment purpose and their interior is quite fascinating. The experience of these places mostly left a memorable spot in your mind. Apart from that, these places attract tourists and help the local community to perform and earn their living. For example, the play of Laila Majnu is very famous in my country and people visit theatures specifically to watch this play.

I would prefer the second argument because i believe that theatures and cinemas rehshapes the cultural and econimic structure of a county.

In conclution, the availability of digital gadgets has made access to the entertainment much easier, but theatures and cinemas still holds their value to this day. People should not forget these places and should visit them with their loved ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact of theatres and the convenience of digital platforms. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the economic argument is mentioned but not fully explored with specific evidence beyond a general claim about tourism. The position is consistent throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth and a more sophisticated analysis of the cultural significance mentioned in the prompt to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand', 'Apart from that', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the paragraphing is somewhat basic. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'fascinating' and 'cultural structure', but there are also persistent spelling errors (e.g., 'theatures', 'todays', 'eveything', 'conclution', 'rehshapes', 'econimic'). These errors are noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to use more precise collocations to convey their arguments more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'theatures... holds their value'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). Complex sentences are attempted, but they often contain errors that slightly impede the flow. The control of grammar is inconsistent, and the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading is necessary.
