Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a debate among people on whether cinemas are important in today's world or if they have lost their significance. In my opinion, cinemas are no longer important, because people can access all the latest movies and television shows online from different websites without paying anything.
The people who think that cinemas are important have some strong points. Moreover, people have been going to cinemas for hundred of years now, whereas watching media online just started recently. Additionally, a large number of people go with their families and friends to watch movies, which also become a source of outing for them. In addition to this, people spend money on tickets as well as snacks which is a big source of income generation for the owners. For example, it is a common culture across many European countries to take your family to cinema halls during the Christmas.
Nowadays, with the advancement in technology the internet has become very common. As a result, many digital platforms have been launched which allow user to watch different movies online for free. Furthermore, a large number of people engage in different activities simultaneously. As a consequence of this, people need a flexible medium to watch movies, where they can pause a movie and perform another important task. For example, the majority of students around the world prefer to watch movies in small parts during their break.
There is no doubt that cinemas held an important value in the past; however, in today's world people do not have enough time to watch a complete movie in one sitting. Therefore, more importance should be given to projects which are working to improve online services to users.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is mentioned but not fully explored beyond a brief mention of ticket sales. The counter-argument regarding digital platforms is better developed, but the overall depth of analysis is modest. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples and ensure that the economic and cultural aspects mentioned in the prompt are balanced with your own perspective. The position is consistent, but the supporting arguments could be more robustly extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Additionally,' 'In addition to this,' and 'As a consequence of this.' However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The logical flow between the two viewpoints is generally sound, but the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a central topic, which contributes to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'income generation,' 'digital platforms,' and 'flexible medium.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances where word choice could be more precise or sophisticated. For example, 'watching media online just started recently' could be phrased more formally. There are no significant spelling errors, but the lexical range does not consistently demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'cinemas held an important value' should be 'have held' or 'held,' and 'for hundred of years' should be 'for hundreds of years.' Additionally, 'allow user to watch' should be 'allow users to watch.' These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more consistent control over pluralization and verb tenses. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy would help improve this score.
