Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that nowadays in digital world, theatres and cinemas are not important anymore as people can watch whatever they want online at their homes. Others believe that theaters and cinemas are important economically and culturally.
On the one hand, people say that with developments in technology where people can watch everything online without needing to visit any cinemas and theatres. Nowadays almost everything is available on internet such as films and other shows for entertainments. People can watch entertaining content on televisions at home. In addition, its cheap because people can get to see the content without spending a lot of money on buying tickets to watch performances on big screen. Particularly for people who live in remote areas, they can have access to range of films and videos while being at home as its difficult for them to travel to such areas where cinemas and theatres are usually located.
On the other hand, people argue that the theatres and cinemas are important as they play crucial role in creating jobs for actors, directors and other workers. They generate tax revenue for the government which can be spent to address other problems in the country. In addition large number of visitors to the cinemas and theatres benefit surrounding cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, large cinemas provide shared experience as a lot of people watch shows collectively. Theatre performances can promote natural history, traditions and social values and also encourage people to follow the cultures.
In conclusions, Although nowadays people have access to everything to internet, I think cinemas and theatres are important as they are beneficial for economy of the country and they also help preserving cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of cinemas and the convenience of online streaming. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the point about 'natural history' in theatre is a bit vague and could have been better linked to cultural preservation. While the position is clear, the arguments could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is fulfilled adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' helps guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the economic benefits and the social experience of cinemas in the second body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'important' and 'people'. While the student uses some relevant topic-specific vocabulary such as 'tax revenue', 'shared experience', and 'remote areas', the overall lexical range is somewhat limited. There are no significant errors that impede communication, but the choice of words is generally functional rather than sophisticated or idiomatic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'in digital world' (missing article), 'its cheap' (incorrect contraction/possessive), and 'access to range of films' (missing article). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and phrasing issues throughout. The student demonstrates a reasonable control of grammar, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. More complex structures are attempted but are not always error-free.
