Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few people assume that theatres and cinemas does not play a important role as everything has transformed into digital platform and everyone can access the entertainment online. None the less, others argue that these are still important economically and culturally. In my perception, theatres play a crucial role in transforming the film industries, help in recruitment of many jobs and also entertains audience. But, replacing theatres makes these things difficult to achieve in our homes or workspaces.

Theatres and cinemas play a crucial role in shaping country's economy, for example, the Indian film industry holds 15% of country's economy and helps the development of country in a drastic manner. Moreover, these theatres recruit large number of people which indirectly helps country to eliminate poverty and plays an important role in making the nation developed. Coming to the audience, the people who work for a lot of time use the theatres as the best source of stress relief but if these are replaced accessing the theatre becomes difficult and creating the theatrical experience at home is nearly impossible as it costs good speakers, projector or screen, etc.

For people who are not having interest in watching movies might assume that replacing theatres might be effective as we can easily access the content through ott platforms and also not required to travel for a long time to watch movies.

In conclusion, I would say that replacing theatres and cinemas have more disadvantages than of advantages as they make the loss of jobs, decrease the country's economy, it makes difficult for audience for accessing all this content easier

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the economic argument regarding the Indian film industry is specific, the explanation of the 'theatrical experience' is a bit simplistic. The conclusion is also slightly underdeveloped, as it repeats points rather than synthesising the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis could be improved to better meet the requirements of a Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are used to link sentences. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the pronoun 'it' lacks a clear antecedent. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'transformed into digital platform' and 'making the nation developed'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'OTT platforms' and 'theatrical experience', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring that words are used in their correct collocations to convey meaning more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas does not play') and incorrect article usage ('a important role'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and article placement would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
