Student answer (Band 5.5)

Theatres and cinemas are two important things in our society playing major role in our lives.Through this not only art but different culture ,languages and diversity is being boosted and being known all over the world.Yeah that's true that we can watch all things at home but the joy, wisdom and cultural knowledge we get by going to theatre and cinema is what we cant have it in our homes.Artisits are our true saviours who not only help us to make ourselves easy and relax from our routine, they help us to shape our lives through various life lessons through their performances and ultimately when they see people coming to watch there performances,it boost their moral, which motivates them to work with more passion and hardwork. These two also play a very important role in our country's economy, boosting our media industry and making it worldly renowned,so as a good citizen it should be our responsibility to not only promote our artisits but make sure to visit theatres and cinemas for promoting their performances and movies with your family for helping in not only growing our media industry but also boosting their moral,so they can do more hardwork through our support. This digital age has made us so away from ourselves that we are now only confined to our screens, not hanging out with our friends and family and planning together to go for watching theatre and cinema which is the reason we are missing the golden chance of making the best memories of our lives,so we should ensure to not to just sit at home but to explore the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention economic and cultural benefits, these points are not supported with specific examples or detailed explanations, remaining at a general level. The structure is also problematic; the entire essay is written as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to clearly distinguish between the two opposing views and your own perspective. To improve, you should dedicate separate paragraphs to each viewpoint and your own opinion, ensuring each point is supported by concrete evidence or logical reasoning rather than just general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is a fundamental requirement for a formal IELTS essay. The ideas are presented in a single block of text, which hinders the logical flow and progression of the argument. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices (e.g., 'not only... but', 'ultimately', 'so'), the lack of clear paragraph breaks makes the text feel repetitive and disjointed. To achieve a higher band, you must organize your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs (one for each view), and a conclusion. This will help the reader follow your argument more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher levels. You use some informal phrasing, such as 'Yeah that's true' and 'making ourselves easy', which is not appropriate for an academic essay. There is also some repetition of basic words like 'important', 'boost', and 'hardwork'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'cinematic experience', 'digital transformation', 'socio-economic impact', or 'cultural preservation'. Focus on using collocations accurately to convey your ideas more professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'making ourselves easy and relax', 'boost their moral' (should be 'morale'), and 'so we should ensure to not to just sit'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct word forms (e.g., 'morale' vs 'moral'), and refining your use of complex structures. Proofreading for basic errors in articles and prepositions will also help improve your score.
