Student answer (Band 6.0)

The way of watching any sort of movie has driven by the advancements in technology ranging from- entertainment, thriller to horror- which can be seen as per viewers requirement. Technology has assisted human beings with online platforms which are an important source of entertainment; however, there are still some people who prefer theatres to be crucial in both economic as well as cultural terms. In my opinion, online applications are by far the more manageable yet secure way of watching.

In this digital era, electronic applications play a pivotal role in providing individuals with control over the movie or film they watch. To be more precise, web series showcased by netflix or any other online site allows people to skip the part of the film they are not interested in, provides opportunity to increase or decrease the playback speed and gives freedom to view it in either full-HD form or normal. These manageable options help individuals in watching anything at their own pace. That is why online sites are more convenient yet the best method.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas are still considered to be both economic and cultural. To explain it, cinema provides a ticket for a film at economical yet reasonable price, which is usually less than 300 and offers an immense pleasure of experiencing a film on an enormous screen that sometimes offers 3D view. Also, it is a place where number of people meet and greet together and make plan to visit and see a particular movie in their free time in order to share gossips; eventually preserving the culture and tradition of going to cinemas. Therefore, these places are associated with creating cultural bonds between individuals.

In conclusion, although cinemas preserve culture, I believe digital platforms offer more comfort and freedom for entertaining purpose.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed both sides of the argument and provided a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide specific examples for the benefits of online platforms (playback speed, full-HD), the economic and cultural arguments for cinemas are less developed. The economic point is limited to ticket pricing, and the cultural argument relies on the vague concept of 'sharing gossips'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the broader economic impact of the film industry or the unique social experience of a communal audience, rather than focusing on minor details. Your position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis needs to be more consistent across both viewpoints.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'To be more precise', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. For instance, the opening sentence is quite disjointed, and the connection between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to show more complex relationships between your ideas. Overall, the structure is functional and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pivotal role', 'advancements', and 'preserving the culture'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural collocation, such as 'share gossips' (which should be 'share gossip' or 'socialize') and 'make plan' (which should be 'make plans'). You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice that slightly hinder the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to media and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'The way of watching any sort of movie has driven by...' should be 'has been driven by'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'a number of people meet and greet together'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Increasing your control over passive voice and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
