Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the economic benefits of cinemas are mentioned, the cultural aspect is only briefly touched upon, and the explanation of online entertainment is somewhat repetitive. The ideas are relevant but lack sufficient development to reach a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure that all parts of the prompt are explored with equal depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the use of 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' in the third paragraph is disjointed, and the connection between sentences is sometimes weak, such as in the second paragraph where the transition to the community aspect feels abrupt. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, they are sometimes used inaccurately or repetitively. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'move company' instead of 'movie company', 'caffes' instead of 'cafes', and 'indespensable' instead of 'indispensable'. The phrasing is often simplistic, and there is a lack of collocation awareness. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to media and economics and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'theatre and cinemas brings', 'internet provide'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'be spend'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper structure or containing run-on segments. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
