Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the 'loss of bonding' is mentioned but not sufficiently explained or linked back to the importance of theatres. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a strong summary of the main points. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning and specific examples that clearly illustrate how cinemas contribute to the economy or culture, rather than just stating that they do.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To embark with' is not a standard academic transition, and 'Firstly we seen' in the conclusion is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'developing' and 'popular'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'all places of entertainments are still maintain their popularity' and 'multiplexes have been developing by multinational companies'. While your meaning is generally clear, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are grammatically appropriate for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'all places of entertainments are still maintain their popularity' (incorrect verb form), 'both of this views is correct' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'we seen' (incorrect tense). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalisation. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
