Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals believe that in the modern age of technology, theatres and cinemas lose their attraction because all type of entertainment is now available online for the people but the others have opinion that theatres and cinemas are essential both economically and culturally even in today's age. In my opinion, local entertainment indusrtey like theatres and cinemas are still valuable for culture-oriented and middle class people because the shows presented by them are more cultural and less expensive as compared to online entertainment sources.
On the one hand, people believe that cinemas and theatres are outdated in this digital age. This is because, with the growing advancement in technology, everything including the entertainment shows are just a click away. People often drawn to online entertainment sources such as Netflix and Prime because they can watch all the shows easily from the comfort of their homes. Moreover, these sources streamline variety of shows from all over the world so that people can have more exposure to international entertainment shows.
On the other hand, some individuals have opinion that theatres and cinemas still have importance in today's world. One of the reasons for that is they are often less expensive as compared to online sources of entertainment and even middle class and lower middle class people can entertain themselves. Additionally, the shows presented by local cinemas and theatres are more culture oriented and some people like to watch shows that present the cultural traditions, norms and clothing instead of international ones.
However, in my opinion, although there's growing fondness of online shows but local cinemas and theatres still have their importance and charm. They are the way of showcasing and preserving different cultures while being way more inexpensive than online ones. As a result, the shows presented by cinemas and theatres are always a hit by local people who love to watch their own traditions, clothing and culture.
In conclusion, while online sources of entertainment provide more comfort and exposure but local cinemas and theatres still have their charm due to being more cultural and inexpensive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For example, the argument that cinemas are 'inexpensive' is mentioned in both the second body paragraph and the conclusion without adding new depth or specific examples. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete illustrations, such as the social experience of a cinema versus the solitary nature of streaming, rather than focusing primarily on cost.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is a tendency to repeat phrases like 'in my opinion' and 'in today's world'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'streamline' and 'exposure', though 'streamline' is used incorrectly in this context (it means to make a process more efficient, not to broadcast content). There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'indusrtey' (spelling) and 'all type of entertainment' (should be 'all types of entertainment'). The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the theatres', 'the cinemas') and subject-verb agreement ('people often drawn to' should be 'people are often drawn to'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the shows presented by cinemas and theatres are always a hit by local people'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
