Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is ongoing debate regarding, theatres and cinemas because both are very common today, most of people watch movies and entertainment from the platforms. Some individuals believe that in the digital age cinemas and theatres no longer remain important. However, others argue that they remain important both economically and culturally. Therefore, both the views will be discussed before presenting my own opinion.

Examining the former opinion, the primary argument that the supporters would put is that easy access to movies through internet. This is due to digital age because now we should watch everything we want through different platforms without traveling and wasting money. Moreover, they also believe that watching online also save their time and efforts because for watching entertainment we need to travel if the cinema is in other city it take a lot of time and also efforts to buy tickets in a long row of people.

On the contrary, those in favour latter opinion would have their own arguments. To begin with that, they claim that cinemas are also important because they believe that we cannot find best quality on the internet but if we are watching movie in cinema than we can feel best experience and quality which cannot find online. Furthermore, they also argue that theatres are still important for the economy of any country because a lot of people are earning through cinemas and theatres. So, it is the source of income of many people.

To conclude and offer my position, there are convincing arguments both for and against the importance of cinemas before and after the digital age. However, I certainly favour the former opinion because watching online movies provide lot of facilites and i agree with them and i think it is best option for watching movies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is mentioned but not sufficiently supported with specific examples or deeper analysis. The explanation for the digital age argument is repetitive, focusing heavily on 'saving time and money' without exploring the broader cultural implications. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed, specific examples to support your claims, such as mentioning the social experience of a cinema or the specific impact of streaming services on local film industries.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover', 'On the contrary', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To begin with that' and 'those in favour latter opinion'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better pronoun usage to avoid repetition of the same subjects.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'best', and 'watching'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in a long row of people' (instead of 'queuing') and 'provide lot of facilites' (instead of 'offers numerous conveniences'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'cinematic experience', 'accessibility', 'revenue streams', or 'cultural significance'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include missing articles ('in digital age', 'in cinema'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'most of people watch', 'watching online also save their time'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the text from achieving a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammar, such as pluralization and article usage, will significantly improve your accuracy.
