Student answer (Band 5.5)
In today's era of the digital age, many individuals say that they can watch all types of entertainment using online means regardless of considering watching them in cinemas and theaters. Some people still think this is important. In my perspective, I tend to watch movies and series digitally, as I can have more liberty of watching any sort of entertainment at home, regardless of any seating issues and the problems faced, such as sound and lighting.
With the advent of technology such as mobile phones and laptops, society is more shifted towards working as well as refreshing themselves at home via online means. They have everything on hand, as they can access all sorts of things, including news, education, and movies, through it. This makes them stand firm on the decision of not going to any cinema or theater because they are not only expensive but also have other issues of lighting and music. For example, the cinemas with better viewing experiences have limited seats, and the price of such seats is huge.
However, there are some movies that evidently require watching in the cinemas. Not only is seeing movies in the cinema culturally significant, but also many people's employment is associated with it. For instance, there are only 41 IMAX cinemas in the world, and many people try to watch IMAX movies in the cinemas, as their digital version doesn't give the absolute image needed to depict.
To sum up what is discussed in this essay, I would say, utilizing technology as the source of entertainment is good, but getting the experience of cinemas and theaters and reliving those moments is still worthy in today's era.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is underdeveloped; for example, the mention of IMAX cinemas is a specific detail but lacks a broader explanation of the cultural impact or economic scale mentioned in the prompt. The personal opinion is clear but could be more effectively integrated into the structure of the essay rather than appearing primarily in the introduction. To reach a higher band, ensure that each viewpoint is supported by more substantial reasoning and clear examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'With the advent of', 'However', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition from the second paragraph to the third is abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score. The paragraphing is sufficient and appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'advent' and 'culturally significant'. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice or slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'society is more shifted towards' and 'price of such seats is huge'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to convey ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'regardless of considering watching them' and 'the cinemas with better viewing experiences have limited seats'. Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences would help in achieving a higher band score.
