Student answer (Band 5.0)
The issue of [TOPIC] has become widely debated in recent years. While some people argue that [VIEW 1], others believe that [VIEW 2]. Although both perspectives have some merit, this essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe that [YOUR OPINION].
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people support [VIEW 1]. The foremost reason is that this approach can offer considerable benefits to individuals and society. This is mainly because it can provide greater flexibility, convenience and opportunities to achieve desired outcomes. Furthermore, it may enable people to use their time and resources more effectively, which can positively influence their personal and professional lives. For example, [VIEW 1] can help people achieve better outcomes in their daily lives. Therefore, there are reasonable grounds for supporting this perspective.
On the other hand, supporters of [VIEW 2] argue that this approach also has important advantages. One major reason is that it can provide an effective way of addressing people's needs and challenges. In addition, it may create wider social, cultural or economic benefits, depending on the circumstances. For instance, [VIEW 2] can help people deal with certain difficulties and improve their overall experiences. Consequently, this perspective can also contribute to broader societal development. However, after considering both perspectives, I believe that [YOUR OPINION] is more convincing because its overall effects are likely to be more beneficial in the long term.
In conclusion, although both views have valid arguments, I believe that [YOUR OPINION] is more convincing. Both perspectives can offer certain advantages, but the more appropriate approach depends on their wider effects on individuals and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to address the specific topic of the prompt. By using placeholders like [TOPIC], [VIEW 1], and [VIEW 2], the essay lacks any engagement with the actual subject matter of theatres and cinemas versus digital entertainment. Consequently, the task is not addressed. To achieve a higher band, you must write about the specific topic provided in the instructions rather than using a generic template. The ideas presented are abstract and lack the necessary development or relevant examples required for an IELTS Academic Task 2 response. Because the content is entirely generic and does not discuss the specific arguments regarding the cultural or economic importance of cinemas, it cannot be scored higher than a 3.0 for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into standard paragraphs, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' is mechanically sound. The progression of ideas is clear, even though the ideas themselves are placeholders. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure follows the expected format for an IELTS essay. However, because the content is not specific to the prompt, the cohesion feels somewhat artificial. To improve, ensure that your cohesive devices are used to link specific, relevant arguments rather than generic statements.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is functional and grammatically correct, but it is entirely generic. Phrases like 'widely debated', 'considerable benefits', and 'broader societal development' are appropriate for an academic context, but they lack the specific terminology required to discuss the topic of media, technology, or the arts. There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary because the topic itself was omitted. To improve, you must incorporate precise vocabulary related to the prompt, such as 'cinematic experience', 'digital streaming platforms', 'cultural heritage', or 'economic viability'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammatical range is adequate, featuring a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The sentences are generally error-free, and the punctuation is used correctly. You demonstrate a good grasp of sentence construction, such as 'Although both perspectives have some merit, this essay will discuss both views...'. While the grammar is accurate, the lack of specific content limits the opportunity to demonstrate a wider range of complex structures that might be needed to discuss nuanced arguments. The current control is sufficient for a band 6.0, but further development of complex ideas would allow for more varied grammatical structures.
