Student answer (Band 4.0)
The issue of [TOPIC] has become a widely debated topic in recent years. While some people argue that [VIEW 1], others believe that [VIEW 2]. Although both views have their own merits, this essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that [YOUR OPINION].
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people support [VIEW 1]. The main reason is that this approach can have a positive impact on individuals and society. This is mainly because it can provide people with greater opportunities and allow them to deal with their needs more effectively. Moreover, it may help individuals make better use of their time, money and resources. For example, [VIEW 1] can help people achieve their goals more efficiently, which can improve their overall quality of life. Therefore, it is understandable why many people consider this perspective beneficial.
On the other hand, there are also valid reasons for supporting [VIEW 2]. One major reason is that this approach can offer an alternative way of dealing with people's needs and challenges. This is because it may provide certain practical, social or economic benefits. Furthermore, it can help individuals and communities achieve better outcomes in different circumstances. For instance, [VIEW 2] can enable people to deal with particular difficulties more effectively, which may have a positive effect on their lives. Consequently, there are reasonable grounds for considering this perspective important. However, after considering both views, I believe that [YOUR OPINION] is more convincing because it is likely to provide greater long-term benefits.
In conclusion, both [VIEW 1 SHORT FORM] and [VIEW 2 SHORT FORM] have valid arguments. Nevertheless, I believe that [YOUR OPINION] is the better approach because its overall effects are likely to be more beneficial for individuals and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0
The response fails to address the specific topic of the prompt. The student has used a template with placeholders like [TOPIC], [VIEW 1], and [VIEW 2] instead of engaging with the actual subject matter of theatres, cinemas, and digital entertainment. Because the essay does not discuss the provided prompt at all, it cannot be assessed as a relevant response to the task. It does not present a position on the actual issue, nor does it provide any relevant arguments or examples related to the topic. Consequently, it fails to meet the basic requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is structured with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and it uses cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, because the content is entirely generic and lacks specific subject matter, the logical progression is hollow. The paragraphing is appropriate for an academic essay, but the lack of meaningful content means that the cohesion serves only to connect empty placeholders rather than a coherent argument. The referencing is mechanical and repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is generic and lacks the specific terminology required to discuss the topic of digital media versus traditional entertainment. Phrases like 'positive impact', 'deal with their needs', and 'achieve better outcomes' are vague and could apply to any topic. There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, which is a requirement for higher bands. The range is limited to functional, academic-style fillers that do not demonstrate an ability to discuss a complex issue with precision or flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is generally accurate and the sentence structures are varied, including complex sentences such as 'Although both views have their own merits, this essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that [YOUR OPINION].' There are few grammatical errors, and the punctuation is correct. However, the grammatical range is limited by the repetitive nature of the template. While the control of grammar is relatively high, the lack of meaningful content prevents a higher score, as the language is not being used to convey complex ideas.
