Student answer (Band 5.5)
The opinions of people regarding the theatres and cinemas greatly vary according to their perception. Some believe that the digital era has shifted the necessity of the theatres and cinema since all the contents are now available on streaming site whereas others argue that both the mediums are still crucial for our economy as well as for our cultural. The essay will discuss both the views
To begin it, the global modernisation has peaked in the recent decades which allows the introduction of streaming site for example: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney + allowing the majority of the population to watch the series and movies online. Additionally, the streaming sites offer the wide range of different genres of contents which can easily be access anytime and anywhere. The popularity of the streaming site has drastically increased due to its affordable subscription fees, which is less than the price of the ticket to the cinema and theatre adding to it there's a limitation of contents probably offer one or two ongoing entertainments for a period.
Even though the streaming sites are offering widespread of choices regarding the genres, the importance of theatres and cinemas are still prominent in rural areas where people waits for the release of new movies or plays. This particular instance shows the impact of both of the source in the social culture visualising the value it has on the rural people. Not only this the offline mode of entertainment plays a significant role in contributing the economy more specifically the village economy, where the good show or a movie can generate the income profit influence the owners of the movie theatres to invest more on the good shows or bring in economically hit movies to their house.
In contrast, I believe the streaming sites have made our life easier regarding the choices of contents and flexibility but at the same time we should also focus on the existence of the theatres and cinemas how it greatly contributes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, satisfying the requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph clearly explains the convenience of streaming, the second paragraph regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is less convincing and lacks specific, well-supported examples. The argument about 'rural areas' waiting for movies is a bit tenuous and could have been strengthened with more logical reasoning. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points discussed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each argument is supported by clear, logical explanations and concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin it', 'Additionally', and 'In contrast', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or unnatural, such as 'To begin it' (which should be 'To begin with'). Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'modernisation', 'prominent', and 'flexibility'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices or minor errors, such as 'contents' (which is usually uncountable in this context), 'economically hit movies', and 'income profit'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. To improve, focus on collocations and the correct usage of nouns in academic contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'shifted the necessity of the theatres', 'both the mediums', 'can easily be access', and 'people waits'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of colons and commas. While the student attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent, leading to errors that occasionally distract the reader. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of complex structures will help improve the score in this criterion.
