Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, though the development is somewhat uneven. The introduction is quite confusing, using unnatural phrasing like 'Homo sapiens' and failing to clearly outline the essay's structure. While the body paragraphs present relevant arguments, the supporting ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the economic argument is limited to mentioning employment without exploring the broader cultural or community impact in detail. The conclusion is also slightly contradictory, as it mentions the importance of cinemas but then focuses entirely on the benefits of digital platforms, making the final stance feel somewhat disjointed from the preceding arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To explain it' and 'To cite an example' are used, but the transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where 'latter notion' is used awkwardly. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the conclusion, the flow is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is adequate for the task but lacks precision and naturalness. The student attempts to use more sophisticated language, such as 'contentious subject' and 'elucidate', but these are often used in contexts that feel unnatural or slightly incorrect. The use of 'Homo sapiens' is inappropriate for this formal academic context. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'spotlight boy' and 'variety of proportion'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of control over more advanced vocabulary and the reliance on repetitive phrasing limits the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'theaters and cinemas has become', 'movie theaters gives'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction. For example, 'Due to online entertainment are becoming more convenient' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex structures. A greater focus on basic grammatical accuracy and sentence construction is required to improve the clarity and professional tone of the writing.
