Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion, which is maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic and cultural benefits, the explanation remains quite general. For instance, the point about 'spotlight technicians' is a specific detail, but the overall argument lacks depth regarding how digital platforms might actually impact the long-term viability of cinemas. The introduction is slightly confusing due to awkward phrasing, which makes the initial statement of your position less impactful. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more nuanced reasoning rather than just stating the benefits or drawbacks.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Beginning with the former perspective' and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For example, the sentence 'Examining the opposing viewpoint, a crucial point to elucidate in the notion is that...' is wordy and slightly unnatural. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the introduction where the connection between the prompt's themes and your thesis is muddled. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contentious', 'elucidate', and 'prominent'. However, there are instances of unnatural word choice and collocation errors. For example, using 'Homo sapiens' in an academic essay is inappropriate and sounds jarring. Phrases like 'screening venues' and 'in their form of need' are also slightly awkward. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, the lack of precision in some areas prevents a higher score. Focus on using words that fit the formal register of an IELTS essay and ensure that collocations are accurate to improve clarity and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex forms, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For instance, 'the movie houses are no longer famous. Due to online entertainment...' is a sentence fragment. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in the notion' instead of 'regarding the notion'. Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are unnecessarily long and convoluted, leading to minor errors in agreement and structure. To improve, focus on reducing sentence fragments and ensuring subject-verb agreement in more complex constructions.
