Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many individuals believe that screening venues are no longer prominent as Homo sapiens can watch any leisure activities they want on any digital platform, while others argue that film theaters are still well-known for economic and cultural sides Meanwhile, theaters and cinemas have become a contentious subject of todays world. Debate centers on whether entertainment venues are no longer noticeable or film theaters are still important ought to be focused on. The primary objectives and justify my stance supporting the former notion.

Beginning with the former perspective, the foremost justification is that movie houses are no longer famous. To explain it, people can see any content online in their form of need and comfort because there is a variety of content on online platforms. For instance, people do not have to wait anymore for the movie to come into the theaters and watch any of the films according to their need . As a result, people may prefer online instead of traditional cinemas, leading to a decline in cinema attendance.

Examining the opposing viewpoint, a crucial point to elucidate in the notion is that film theaters are very important and play a prominent role in supporting the economy and culture. In other words, the movie theaters give employment to directors, actors, spotlight technicians and so on. They also give us a cultural experience. To cite an example, cinemas employ thousands of people and help them to give their message to a wide range of audiences. Hence, film theaters contribute to economic growth and also help to promote cultural identity.

In conclusion, although theaters and cinemas are prominent, I believe that digital platforms can give us the variety of content and individuals can see any type of content online according to their mood.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is generic, mentioning 'directors and actors' without explaining the broader economic impact or the unique cultural value of the shared experience. The introduction is slightly confusing, using unnatural phrasing like 'Homo sapiens' and 'screening venues,' which detracts from the clarity of the position. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band, as they rely on repetitive points about convenience versus employment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Beginning with the former perspective,' 'Examining the opposing viewpoint,' and 'In conclusion.' However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly forced. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The introduction is particularly disjointed, with sentences that do not connect logically to the rest of the essay, which affects the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is adequate but lacks precision and naturalness. The use of 'Homo sapiens' is highly inappropriate for an academic essay, as it is a scientific term rather than a synonym for 'people.' Other word choices, such as 'screening venues' and 'contentious subject of todays world,' feel slightly awkward or misused. There is an attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary, but the lack of control over collocation and register prevents a higher score. The repetition of 'content' and 'theaters' suggests a limited range of synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'theaters and cinemas are still important ought to be focused on' and 'in their form of need and comfort.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences feeling run-on or poorly structured. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate a lack of full control over complex grammatical forms, keeping the score in the mid-range.
