Some people argue that in the age of technology theatres and cinemas are no more crucial as individuals can watch all the entertainment they desire online. And other people believe that theatres and cinemas are vital for both finance and culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the 'economic and cultural' importance of theatres is mentioned but not sufficiently supported with specific examples or logical depth. The points regarding health and 'technical education' feel slightly tangential to the core debate about the relevance of physical venues versus digital streaming. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples, such as the social experience of a live audience or the specific economic impact on local communities, rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Whereas they also say' or 'Similarly, they argue'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transition between the discussion of digital trends and the health concerns in the second body paragraph is abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used to link ideas more fluidly would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'proponents of modern era emphasising' (should be 'the modern era emphasise') and 'time costing' (should be 'time-consuming'). You rely on some repetitive structures and basic descriptors like 'fun and excitement'. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary, such as 'ubiquity of digital platforms' or 'cultural preservation', rather than relying on simpler, sometimes inaccurate, word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'theatres and cinemas are no more crucial' (should be 'no longer crucial'), 'public is having their personal gadgets' (should be 'the public has'), and 'more use digital devices' (should be 'increased use of digital devices'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with grammatical precision.
