Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an essay discussing the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, but you have written a report describing a map of a college canteen. Because you have failed to address the task prompt entirely, the response cannot be assessed for task achievement in the context of the essay question. Additionally, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which further impacts the score. To improve, ensure you carefully read the prompt before starting and practice writing essays that present arguments and personal opinions on social issues.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is logically organized as a report, with clear paragraphing and some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In addition', and 'Lastly'. However, because the content is entirely irrelevant to the task, the coherence is undermined by the fact that the ideas do not relate to the prompt provided. While the internal structure of the report is coherent, it fails to fulfill the requirements of the essay task. To improve, focus on structuring your arguments logically to support a clear position on the specific topic provided in the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for describing a diagram, including terms like 'redevelopment', 'noticeable development', and 'constructed'. However, the range is limited and repetitive, and there are minor errors such as 'seprate' (spelling) and 'design of cafe involve' (subject-verb agreement). The vocabulary is not suited to the argumentative nature of the required task. To improve, you should expand your range of academic vocabulary to include words related to cultural, economic, and technological discussions, which are necessary for Task 2 essays.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'cafe underwent' (missing article), 'sitting place' (awkward phrasing), and 'design of cafe involve' (subject-verb agreement). While the meaning is generally clear, the control of grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering article usage, subject-verb agreement, and sentence variety. Ensure you proofread your work to catch minor errors that can be easily avoided.
