Student answer (Band 5.5)

Most individuals argue that in the modern age, theatres and cinemas are no longer needed as masses can watch it online what they want to, However, few of them believe that it plays a vital role economically and culturally. The reason behind both the opinion shall be discussed in upcoming paragraph along with my opinion in conclusion.

Commencing with the reason that favor the former view is that currently it becomes easier to find anything online what individuals want to. As they can watch movies, dramas and more on mobile phones, computers and on television. It avoids people to expand money on cinemas or theatres. Also, it saves time and money. For example, a large number of people used to watch movies online on various platforms . They can watch it with their family members without paying for every single member.

Moving towards the reason that support the later view, as few individuals are largely depended on cinema halls as they like to watch it on big screens with HD or 3D quality which find it harder to play it online either on smart phone or computer. For instance, large cinema halls has been constructed in almost every city because the demand is highly inclining day by day. Moreover, the music system in theatre plays a vital role in movies that enhance the feature of picture. further, cinemas and theatres often showcase local , independent or historical storytelling that reflects a nations identity and traditions.

To conclude, although both the opinion have their justified reason however, i believe that cinemas and theatres are too important to develop economy and to show up the cultures mainly on big screens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the economic importance of cinemas is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. The points are relevant, but the explanation remains at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' more thoroughly, perhaps by discussing the specific economic impact of film production or the social value of shared cultural experiences in more detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Commencing with', 'Moving towards', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'The reason behind both the opinion shall be discussed in upcoming paragraph'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'as they like to watch it on big screens', where the antecedent is not immediately obvious. Improving the variety and flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economically', 'culturally', and 'independent storytelling'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'demand is highly inclining' (should be 'increasing') and 'enhance the feature of picture' (should be 'enhance the cinematic experience'). Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly the use of 'watch it' and 'online'. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to use more precise vocabulary to express your ideas rather than relying on general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('large cinema halls has been constructed'), incorrect article usage ('the demand is highly inclining'), and awkward phrasing ('as masses can watch it online what they want to'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some misplaced commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Try to proofread your work specifically for these common errors to ensure your complex sentences are accurate.
