Student answer (Band 5.5)

A few individuals argues that in this contemporary society, drama halls and film centres are not much significant as persons can view all the recreation they want inter based. While opponents says that play halls and cinemas are still vital both financially and traditionally. There is no doubt that theatres and cinemas can help people with entertainment to unwind after a hectic day. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

According to some citizens, play halls and movie theatres are not longer important due to several reasons. One main reason is that it is helpful in saving money as individuals do not have to spend a huge money for watching them. People who go to cinemas and theatres have to book a ticket first, and this ticket can be expensive so most citizens do not prefer this and think that they can watch all movies online without paying money. For example, if a new movie is being launched and people start getting tickets to watch this movie while some people who oppose the idea to go there watch the same movie online. However, it can be uploaded after few days but everyone would be able to watch free of cost.

Furthermore, the other majority believe that movie theatres still play a vital role both economically and culturally. The owners of such halls earn a huge amount of money from them as they have also added a few things that can attract people attention. Instead of just playing traditional drams or a popular film, they also have opened shops there so that citizens can enjoy popcorns while enjoying the movie. Moreover, this expands the buisness and benefits to the economical industry. Also mostly people fond of watching cultural films so playing traditional movies will catch persons attention. For instance, in this modern society most of the individuals want to look back at the history, so movies based on historical content can become popular and much money will be spend by affluents and will give rise to this market.

In my opinion, auditories and movie theatres are quite significant because people can unwind after going there. I believe that there is a big contrast by watching films or plays online and watching this by go to cinemas because one can enjoy more with live shows.

To conclude, both views have positive effects as money can be saved by watching movies online. However, going to cinemas can be beneficial for economic sector and financially.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding economic benefits is repetitive and lacks specific, well-explained examples. The term 'drama halls' is an unusual choice for modern cinemas, and the discussion on 'affluents' spending money is vague. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band. The position is consistent, but the reasoning could be more sophisticated and better linked to the broader cultural and economic implications mentioned in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly forced. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from ticket prices to online streaming is abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the argument, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There is a reliance on basic phrasing, such as 'huge amount of money' and 'not much significant'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect in context, such as 'inter based' (presumably meaning 'internet-based'), 'drams' (instead of 'dramas'), and 'auditories' (which is not standard English for cinemas). The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the errors in collocation and word formation occasionally hinder the clarity of the message. A wider range of academic vocabulary is needed to move beyond a band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('A few individuals argues', 'opponents says'), incorrect article usage ('the economical industry'), and awkward phrasing ('not longer important'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels repetitive. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. More attention to basic grammar rules and sentence variety is required.
