Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this digital era, cinemas and theaters have lost some of their significance in society because the same movies and shows are now easily available on online platforms such as Prime Video and Netflix. However, cinemas and theaters still have some financial and cultural significance in society. I agree that they still play a significant role in society because they provide employment and unique experience of cultural theater.
On one hand, the digital era has brought a major change in the entertainment industry by providing movies and shows on mobile phones. As a result now watching movie is more convenient for people and they enjoy their favorite content wherever they want. Platforms like Prime Video and Netflix have million of viewers because of their affordable subscription plans. This convinced people to watch movies at there home and then they avoid visiting cinemas regularly.
On the other hand cinemas and theatres have cultural and financial significance. They have associated memorable long history with many memories. Watching movies on mobile screen cannot provides same experience as watching it on large screen with high quality sound such as Dolby Atoms and advanced viewing technology such as 3D, IMAX and 4DX. Furthermore cinemas and theatres provides employment to many people including staff members, cleaning staff and security. If people completely stop visiting cinemas and theaters these people face many financial issues.
In conclusion, although streaming movies and shows on mobile phones are more convenient and affordable. While visiting cinemas and theaters provides a different experience with high quality entertainment and valuable time to spend with friends and family. Therefore, I believe that cinemas and theaters continue to have some financial and cultural significance in this modern society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of employment and technological advantages like IMAX. However, some points could be further extended to reach a higher band. For instance, the economic impact could be more deeply explored beyond just mentioning staff employment. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. To improve, the student could vary the cohesive devices further and ensure that referencing within sentences is more precise to avoid minor awkwardness in flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'subscription plans', 'entertainment industry', and 'advanced viewing technology'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'associated memorable long history' and 'cannot provides same experience'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The student demonstrates a good attempt at using less common vocabulary, but more precision in word formation and collocation would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable level of control, but several grammatical errors persist, such as 'watching movie is' (missing article), 'at there home' (incorrect pronoun), and 'cinemas and theatres provides' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are some punctuation and phrasing issues, such as the sentence fragment in the conclusion starting with 'While'. While these errors do not significantly impede meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
