Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, the rapid proliferation of high-speed internet and smart devices has fundamentally altered entertainment consumption habits. One group believes that individuals can easily view content on their devices from anywhere in the world. While another group of people still believes that in the current era, theaters and cinemas are still vital both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views, and then I will state my opinion.
Firstly, with the widespread availability of the internet, it is easy for anyone to watch any content from anywhere in the world. Additionally, with the advancement in technology and mobile devices readily available, viewers prefer to watch movies and dramas on their phones and other electronic gadgets. Everyone has busy lives, and they have no time to go to the cinema or spend money on tickets, and they prefer to watch through online entertainment platforms. For instance, a financial report of Netflix, which is an online entertainment platform, revealed that in just the last two years their subscribers jumped from ten million to 65 million in Pakistan. This figure demonstrates that now people prefer to consume content online.
Secondly, another group argues that people can learn about their culture through cinemas and theaters. In theaters, audiences may have the opportunity to meet famous actors and gain a more authentic understanding of their culture. Moreover, when a new film is released, actors often visit cinemas to promote it and interact with their fans. For example, a cinema ticket may cost around 300 rupees, whereas watching the same content on YouTube can cost around 800 rupees. Therefore, cinemas can provide both cultural experiences and affordable entertainment.
In conclusion, in my view, even though culture and finance are vital in human life, due to the busy lifestyles of individuals, people prefer to watch content online, which is very convenient to save energy as well as time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the cultural importance of cinemas is supported by the idea of meeting actors, but the example provided—comparing a 300-rupee cinema ticket to an 800-rupee YouTube cost—is illogical and confusing, as YouTube content is generally free or subscription-based, not per-view expensive. This weakens the argument significantly. While the position is clear, the supporting evidence needs to be more accurate and logically sound to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between the two main body paragraphs is a bit mechanical. Additionally, the referencing in the second paragraph is slightly disjointed; the link between meeting actors and the subsequent price comparison is abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'proliferation', 'entertainment consumption', and 'authentic understanding'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'financial report of Netflix' (which should be 'financial data' or 'subscriber statistics') and the confusing comparison regarding costs. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that your examples are supported by accurate terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as the sentence fragment 'While another group of people still believes...' which lacks a main clause. There is also a slight issue with subject-verb agreement and article usage in places. However, these errors do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that your introductory clauses are properly attached to main clauses to avoid fragments.
