Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals think that in the modern era, Cinema halls and Theatres have no value because anyone can see their favorite movies and series online. While others say that these are still necessary from economic and cultural point of view. This essay will discuss both of these views and my opinion is that they are not as much important as they used to be due to technological change.

First of all, the group of people argue that movie cinemas and theatres are not important because of new technologies and online platforms. Furthermore, Many of these platforms are free and everyone can watch their favorite movies, series and dramas online by using their mobile phone and data. For example, a person who often enjoy watching movies can approach any movie that he finds interesting just by using internet data.

Opposing this, the other group says that they still play a significant role to promote economic and cultural values. Moreover, the experience of watching favorite movies in cinemas is much better and smoother than watching alone at random platforms. In addition, most of the people enjoy more on big screens rather than mobile phone screens.

For example, there are most of the individuals who enjoy watching movies with their best friends and family so they spend some money to make moments with their loved ones. Lastly they argue that both are significant both economically and culturally.

In conclusion, I have discussed both views with proper examples and explained why theatres and cinemas are not as much necessary as they used to be in the past.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that online platforms are convenient and that cinemas offer a better experience, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. For instance, the point about 'economic and cultural values' is mentioned but not explained or supported with concrete evidence. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Furthermore', 'Opposing this', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Lastly they argue that both are significant', where it is not immediately obvious who 'they' refers to. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'digital age', 'online platforms', and 'economic and cultural values'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple phrasing. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'approach any movie' instead of 'access any movie' or 'watching alone at random platforms'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the group of people argue' (should be 'argues'), 'most of the individuals who enjoy' (wordy/awkward), and 'not as much important' (should be 'not as important'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. To achieve a higher band, focus on increasing the accuracy of your complex sentences and reducing these recurring minor errors, which currently prevent the writing from being consistently error-free.
