Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people say that theaters and cinemas are no longer important now. and on the other side, some peoples still think that cinemas and theaters are still important Economically and also for their culture. we can analize both point of views.

Firstly, when we talk about the people who thinks that theaters and cinemas are no longer important, as far as think i agree with their point, because now we live the modern society where we have every thing on our smart phones, we can find every movie on social media, and watch them online on our phones, for example, when the new movies released we can watch the official trailer on you tube and other different sites. then if we are interested to watch the movie or series we can buy netflix and watch them easily to sit on our bad. it is very easy to watch movies at home.

Moreover, alternatively other people who are saying that cinemas and theaters are still important. i concur with their point, because in 90's we just have the theaters people really enjoy them, one day, my father tell the story of his childhood. my father tell me that we can watch the movies on cinemas, they also go to the theaters to watch the live shows, they watch the movies in the cinemas and theaters. but when we thought of our society. we think it is easy but it really not good for our health. thats why they prefer to watch them on the cinemas and theaters.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, though the development is quite limited. The arguments regarding the convenience of digital media are clear, but the second paragraph lacks depth and logical clarity. The student mentions their father's stories but fails to clearly link these anecdotes to the economic or cultural importance of cinemas in a modern context. The position is stated but lacks the sophisticated support required for higher bands. The response is somewhat repetitive and relies on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. Transitions like 'Firstly' and 'Moreover' are used, but the internal logic within paragraphs is weak. For instance, the transition from discussing the father's stories to the health benefits of cinemas is abrupt and lacks a clear logical connection. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression of the argument feels disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's line of reasoning consistently.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. The student uses simple phrases such as 'watch all the entertainment' and 'very easy'. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'analize' (spelling) and 'bad' (likely meaning 'bed'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic with precision or nuance. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the frequent spelling and collocation errors limit the score significantly. More sophisticated terminology related to the film industry or digital technology is absent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('people who thinks'), tense consistency ('my father tell'), and sentence structure (run-on sentences and comma splices). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with improper use of full stops and capitalisation. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often faulty. The majority of the sentences contain errors, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading is necessary.
