Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this era of advanced technology, there is a widespread debate among individuals that theatres and cinemas no longer play essential roles as they can enjoy all the entertainment available online where others claim that theatres and cinemas are still crucial both financially and culturally. Though technology made easier for us to get entertained online, I disagree that it can fulfil all of our recreational, economical, and cultural needs what theatres and cinemas can provide.
To explain about theatres and cinema, it is evident that these platforms require our physical presence where we can meet with other individuals with different professions and different perspectives which helps us expending social networks that is essential for our cultural growth. On top of that, theatres and cinemas can raise money to sustain and support their media industry fruitfully which cannot be possible online. Thus, the media industry can flourish more gradually. Moreover, socialization can improve our mental and physical wellbeing that is linked to the entertainment too, and that helps us to conserve our culture.
However, some individuals argue that theatres and cinemas are unnecessary due to the current technological advancement when people can effortlessly enjoy recreation being home online. It is undeniable that technology has made access to the virtual world easier, but without socialization people cannot grow psychologically which is evident in some articles published recently by some research groups of Harvard University. On the other hand, there is no cultural boundary online where people can be distracted easily by different cultures at a time which is very dangerous for people's concentration, psychological wellbeing, and cultural preservation. It is also difficult to maintain economical factors for the media industry where people are not present in person.
In conclusion, it is evident that theatres and cinemas are and will be always for the human welfare in the sense of recreation, mental and physical wellbeing, financial factors of the recreational industries, and cultural preservation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the social benefits of cinemas and the economic impact on the industry. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed or rely on generalizations, such as the claim that online entertainment is 'dangerous' for concentration. While the position is consistent, the development of the economic argument could be more specific to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all parts of the prompt adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To explain about', 'On top of that', and 'However', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the vague mention of 'some articles published recently by some research groups of Harvard University', which lacks specific detail. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different viewpoints.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'recreational', 'flourish', and 'psychological wellbeing'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and collocation errors, such as 'expending social networks' (should be 'expanding') and 'maintain economical factors' (should be 'economic'). While the meaning is always clear, the range is somewhat limited, and the student relies on a few repetitive terms throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with article usage and verb forms, such as 'Though technology made easier for us' (should be 'has made it easier') and 'what theatres and cinemas can provide' (should be 'that theatres...'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'there is a widespread debate among individuals that theatres and cinemas no longer play essential roles as they can enjoy all the entertainment available online'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout.
