Student answer (Band 6.0)
Theatres and cinemas play a very significant role in traditions and entertainment. Some individuals argue that theatres and cinemas are no longer essential because of easy access to the internet while, others believe that these are still crucial for both economically and culturally. From my perspective, these are still essential to community for entertainment even though technology has changed considerably.
On the one hand, some people argue that, in the modern world, people can easily access the internet and watch content according to their preferences. In addition, internet usage has become deeply integrated into people's daily lives. As a result, they can save both travel time and the money they would otherwise spend on tickets. For example, people can watch movies and live performances online from the comfort of their homes without travelling to a cinema or theatre.
On the other hand, many individuals believe that these are still important economically and culturally because the younger generation is far away from their cultures and traditions. Theatres and cinemas can help to build the economy of the country by selling tickets. However, live performances can provide mental relaxation during a busy life and it also helps to maintain social connection. Moreover, theatre and cinema industries offer fun activities for entertainment and help to integrate into people's daily lives.
In conclusion, although the internet provides people with convenient and affordable access to entertainment, I believe that theatres and cinemas are still essential. They not only provide opportunities for entertainment and social interaction but also contribute to the preservation of cultural traditions and the economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming versus the cultural and economic importance of physical venues. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the point about the younger generation being 'far away from their cultures' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with a concrete example. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more specific evidence or deeper analysis rather than listing points. The position is consistent throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level of task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing (e.g., 'essential' and 'important' are used frequently). The progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds more naturally upon the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'integrated,' 'preferences,' and 'preservation.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the use of 'important' and 'essential.' There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'essential to community' (should be 'essential to the community') and 'help to integrate into people's daily lives' (which is slightly awkward in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repeating basic adjectives. The current range is sufficient to communicate your ideas clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and easy to follow, and the meaning is never obscured by errors. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'crucial for both economically and culturally' (should be 'crucial both economically and culturally' or 'crucial for both economic and cultural reasons') and 'help to integrate into people's daily lives' (which lacks a clear subject). While you attempt complex structures, the control is not entirely consistent. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures and ensuring grammatical precision in parallel constructions would help elevate your score.
