Student answer (Band 6.5)

Without any iota of doubt, development plays an important role in our lives since the time immemorial. Few individuals tell that in the computer era, movie halls are not crucial as residents can watch all the things they want on social media, however, some believe that movie halls are also vital both for country and people. This essay will not only describe both views but also my opinion.

Apparently, if people want to watch movies, they can use online platforms because they are more flexible. For example, many people have very busy lifestyles and lack the time to watch movies in a cinema. Instead, they watch them on online or streaming platforms like Google, YouTube, and Netflix or various other apps while commuting to the office or taking a break. Furthermore, online platforms make it easy for the public to watch whatever they want, anytime. They are often preferred over movie theaters because users can watch content for free while working from home. Ultimately, this is an excellent form of entertainment that helps individuals reduce stress caused by work or family.

In contrast, cinema plays an important role in development for nation. To justify it more, if a movie hall is open in any area, they hire staff for maintaining it, which increases number of employment. Also, these types of things are tourist attractions and encourage people to visit that area. As a result, it increase the GDP of country and help to develop country more future. The cinema industry serves as a powerful driver of economic growth and a vital mirror for cultural preservation and exchange. Globally, film production and exhibition generate billions of dollars in revenue while shaping social values, historical narratives, and national identities.

In my opinion, I believe that cinema halls are important because globally, film production and exhibition generate billions of dollars in revenue while shaping social values, historical narratives, and national identities.

In conclusion, movie halls have both merits and demerits, it depends on public, which face they adapt. Cinema is important because it provide employment, however, online platforms are more flexible and people can watch everything they can anytime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for online platforms is well-supported with examples like Netflix and commuting. Conversely, the section on the economic importance of cinemas is a bit repetitive, and the paragraph expressing your opinion is essentially a copy-paste of the previous paragraph's content, which limits the depth of your analysis. To improve, ensure that your opinion paragraph synthesizes your arguments rather than repeating them verbatim. Overall, the response is relevant and maintains a consistent position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'As a result' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or forced, such as 'To justify it more'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'these types of things' to refer to cinemas. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultural preservation', 'economic growth', and 'national identities'. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'development plays an important role in our lives since the time immemorial' (which is a misuse of the idiom) and 'residents' when referring to people in general. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'develop country more future'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'Few individuals tell that' (should be 'Some individuals argue'), 'it increase the GDP' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'it provide employment' (should be 'it provides'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices, particularly in the conclusion. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
