Student answer (Band 5.5)

The digital age, theatres and cinemas are no more of significance than before because people watch entertainment from any place they want and whenever they want to. But some believe that traditional means of entertainment are still better in comparison. However, in my opinion modern ways of entertainment have dominated our lives.

One major advantage of digital media is its use in entertainment. People can access movies, songs and dramas from digital devices situated nearest to them. Which is essentially important for those who have family responsibilities and a lot of children. For example, having a big tv or LCD screen can provide the same cinematic experience that we get in cinema and it saves us the cost of travel. As a result individuals who decided to go for the innovative ways of entertainment and use modern tech to watch movies and dramas experience cheaper and high-quality enjoyment in contrast to traditional amusement.

Another important consideration is that digital entertainment is extremely flexible because it is accessible from any digital device and from any place we deem suitable for us but traditionalists are of opposite opinion they enjoy trips to movie theatres. For example, individuals can use whatever electronic device like smart phones and computers to access information and movies associated with their personal tastes from any place they want to. they want to sit on seats that are specially reserved for them and to interact with the audience they are with in the same room. As a result, people with strong cultural values would never abandon cinemas no matter how outdated or difficult it would become for them to visit them.

In conclusion, although old believes and values are a good but i believe that technological development can positively affect certain aspects of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the advantages of digital media are explained, the discussion regarding the economic and cultural importance of theatres is less developed and relies on general statements rather than specific examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that your personal opinion is more thoroughly integrated into the body of the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'As a result', to link sentences. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the third paragraph where the shift between digital and traditional viewpoints is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, which affects the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'digital media', 'innovative ways', and 'cultural values'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'old believes' (should be 'beliefs') and 'no more of significance'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing to demonstrate a more flexible control of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as sentence fragments ('Which is essentially important...') and punctuation issues, including missing commas and incorrect capitalization. Subject-verb agreement and article usage also show occasional errors. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundary control and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
