Student answer (Band 5.5)

Entertainment is essential to refresh mind of people or to spend their leisure time . There is a considerable debate upon wheather cinemas and theatres play a vital role in the digital period as they can be accessed online while cinemas demonstrates economical and cultural values .

The people who favours online entertainment find it to be more time saving and provide flexibility as they can get entertained at their place for instance watching a movie or a web series comfortably at your home without public interference and also save the travelling time . Furthermore , online entertainment is cheaper than theatres and cinemas as they are usually cost free or the people are charged less subscription amount than a ticket at a cinema .

In the contrast, people who value the theatres and cinemas prefer to experience the art forms in real life and gets the benefit of early movie release with better quality and sound effects . Furthermore, the theaters and cinemas collects revenue and provide employment to security workers , supervisors and cleaners . Theatres also reflect cultural values as they usually promote cultural acts and plays while sometimes playing the epics of their religions .

In my opinion , People should adopt a balance approach as they should continue to visit the theatres and cinemas for entertainment as they give different real life cultural experiences as compared to the online entertainment which is much more flexible and cheaper .The cinemas and theatres also generate employment opportunities .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of online streaming versus the economic and cultural benefits of physical venues. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the economic argument regarding employment is mentioned but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of how these venues impact local economies or cultural preservation. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion could be more robust by summarizing the main arguments more effectively rather than just restating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In the contrast', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of online entertainment and the economic arguments for cinemas could be better linked to create a more cohesive argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow the progression of your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'leisure time', 'subscription amount', and 'employment opportunities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'demonstrates economical and cultural values' (should be 'economic') and 'adopt a balance approach' (should be 'balanced'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('cinemas demonstrates', 'theaters and cinemas collects') and minor punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To achieve a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like pluralization and verb agreement.
