Student answer (Band 6.0)

Due to the rapid digitalization of the 21st century, the means of entertainment has transformed into completely different modes, as compared to the past few decades. This transformation has sparked a debate over the most vital sources of amusement. I strongly believe that although there are more advanced sources of entertainment, theatres and cinema facilities cannot be taken considered obsolete, they are as crucial as digital means.

On the one hand, the social media and internet collaboratively provide both educational and fun activities. Every individual can access internet free of cost to fulfil their needs whether they are related to their work, studies etc. For instance, chat gpt is well-known website to be designed for people from all backgrounds to facilitate their needs. In addition, web-based recreation allows humans to save commuting time to the physical centres which indirectly be offset to for family time or for exercising.

Conversely, Cinemas and theatres still have importance of their own. Firstly they be generate revenue to aid any nations economy in terms of the entertainment sector, there are professionals like movie actors, singers, directors which are earning their bread and butter. Moreover, if youth are visiting these facilities, they would know how it feels to watch live performances, and furthermore, it will provide them a chance to think about pursuing entertainment field as their career. Another point to be consider is that there are senior citizens who might not be familiar with the technology to access online sources.

In conclusion, Although new advance gadgets help serve entertainment at not extra cost, as well as save time of transportation, Actual theatres and cinemas hold unique culture to entertain people of all ages. I believe these centres act as a bridge for the youth to pass on that past how people in past used to have access of entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic impact of cinemas and the accessibility of digital content. However, some points are under-developed; for instance, the mention of 'senior citizens' is a good point but lacks sufficient elaboration to fully support the argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the structure follows a logical flow that meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Conversely,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the economic benefits and the social aspects of cinemas could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'digitalization,' 'recreation,' and 'revenue.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'be generate revenue' and 'access of entertainment' instead of 'access to entertainment.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'cannot be taken considered obsolete,' 'they be generate revenue,' and 'another point to be consider.' These errors relate to verb forms and passive voice construction. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent, which limits the score in this criterion.
